Rice Masonry

Had to get an estimate for my leaking chimney which I had repaired a couple years back but noticed it was starting to leave a large water stain around my fireplace on the ceiling. I asked a few friends and coworkers who they recommended and 4/5 said Rice masonry. John was honestly so helpful when it came to answering my questions and concerns with this project. Really grateful I found someone who could do it right before I had a bigger problem on my hands!

I don’t normally give reviews unless maybe I am satisfied with someone’s service. But I have to make an exception here. I’ll try not to make it too lengthy. On 8-8-25, John gave an estimate for a chimney that was in need of repair. Of course, or at least I, like to get at least three estimates to compare to, which I did. His quote was very detailed, as was one other company. The other company itemized the cost for each step of the process, which I was not expecting, but was actually needed in my situation. I called John to talk to him about the quote, and thanking him for a very detailed quote. I told John one company had itemized their quote for each step and asked if he could do that and asked what the cost would be just for repairing the flashing. He said he would never just fix the flashing without repairing the whole chimney , which of course I agree. He also said he would have to charge another 10-20 % to itemize each step. In short, when I tried to explain to him several times why I wanted to know the price of just fixing the flashing, he kept interrupting me said if I didn’t not trust him to use the other company. I told him it was not that I did not trust him, otherwise I would not have called him. He said well it sounds like you already made up your mind so use the other company. Prior to this conversation I was considering using him for the repair. But his unwillingness to listen and rudeness changed my mind. He clearly was not happy with request.

Not impressed. If you're a senior woman, he'll give you a line about how he wouldn't want his mother or grandmother ripped off, and then he'll try to rip you off with inflated pricing. Keep looking.
