DEL Chimney Repair Chicago

We had this weird smell coming from our fireplace area every time it rained, like damp musty air just pouring into the living room. figured it was maybe a dead animal or something stuck up there but when DEL came out for an inspection they showed me pictures from up top and the crown was cracked pretty bad with chunks missing. water had been getting in for who knows how long, pooling somewhere inside the flue liner. the repair took maybe two days i think, they replaced the crown and relined part of the chimney and sealed everything up. that smell is completely gone now which is kind of wild because we lived with it for like three years just assuming it was normal old house stuff. my daughter used to refuse to sit in that corner of the room lol. the inspection alone was worth it honestly because i never would of figured out the actual problem on my own, kept thinking it was a ventilation issue or somethin with the furnace

Had DEL replace an old chimney cap and do a small repoint around the upper stack. communication was simple, they confirmed the day before and got in and out without a long disruption. The new cap fits right, no rattling, and the mortar touch-up looks clean from the street. they cleaned the gutters where dust landed too, which i appreciated.

After a windy week, we found little bits of tile and mortar in the yard and a brown stain starting on the ceiling near the fireplace. I didn't want to keep using the chimney until it was checked. DEL came out to our home in Chicago 60625, inspected the crown and flashing, and showed photos of where water was getting in. They rebuilt the damaged crown, reset a few loose pieces at the top, and sealed the joints where the brick had opened up. The work looked deliberate, not rushed, and they kept the roof area tidy with all debris bagged up. Since the repair, the leak has not returned and the fireplace draft is steady again. It was a real stress reducer to get it handled properly.
