My fireplace and chimney were almost 40 years old and was in serious need for repairs. Daniel came out and inspected everything and then sent a crew to do the repairs. These men worked very diligently from 8am to almost 5 pm for 4 days straight. They were very meticulous and clean up the job site when finished. Nothing but praise for them! It’s been almost a year and Chicagoland Fireplace came out to inspect my fireplace to make sure everything was working properly and they also checked the cap on my chimney. Everything works great! Nice guys!
Great work. Efficient and friendly.
New Response… January 7, 2026 Thanks, Olivia. I understand that I have an older Canadian-manufactured unit (common in the 1990s–early 2000s) and that SFC is no longer in business. Your technician stated that “they don’t make the part anymore.” That portion is accurate. However, no longer manufactured does not necessarily mean no longer replaceable. The issue is not the fireplace itself, but the valve and pilot system. After conducting my own research, I learned that there are well-established generic and aftermarket retrofit options that are still manufactured and commonly used on discontinued units. Examples include: Gas Valves (commonly used replacements): • SIT 820 / 830 series • Honeywell (Resideo) VS820 / VS842 • Dexen / SIT millivolt valves Pilot Assemblies: • SIT universal pilot assemblies • Honeywell Q-series pilots (Q314, Q327, etc.) • Universal 3-wire thermopile + thermocouple pilot systems These components are widely available as conversion or retrofit kits and remain in production. Having done business with your company in 2024—when service was excellent—I had hoped this time your technician would have at least discussed retrofit options or provided referrals, rather than stating the part was discontinued and leaving the matter there. I’m sharing this feedback not to dispute the diagnosis, but to clarify that additional guidance would have been appreciated. Best regards, Thadine Edit***2025 Do NOT Recommend. If there is another option, I would skip this company. I paid $199 for an estimate and was told the part I needed was discontinued. I had to follow up with the company several times because they left me hanging after saying they would try to find me the part. Then I spoke with the receptionist who was kind enough to send me the name of the part I needed but in the same breath told me she was ‘too busy’ to tell me the names of the other companies they reached out to for the part. For me, they dropped the ball. Took my $199 and could care less. I may have found a company that can come and do a ‘retrofit installs’ but I’ll need to pay another $199. For that reason, I would pass on this company. The review below in 2024 still stands but in 2025, nope, 👎 nope - do not recommend due to customer service and follow up skills. 2024 High five!! Absolutely the best! 5 stars easily. We had the chimney cleaned and 2 fire places and we are too happy with the results. The professionalism, knowledge and expertise truly put me and my husband at ease. Alex and his brother were the dynamic duo that I didn’t know we needed. Great job! Incredible! Highly recommend!
